Asus Eee Tablet, a cute grayscale bloc note

The Asus Eee Tablet is an electronic bloc-note that uses a 64-levels grayscale display to display black and white content at the resolution of 1024x768. Asus has built it to make the paper and pen obsolete, which is quite an ambitious goal. The device uses a pen as an input device and Asus touts that the display sensitivity is 2450 dpi, which means that we're reaching sub-pixel accuracy here. Thanks to that level of precision, Asus believes that the Eee Tablet (do not confuse it with the impressive Eee Pad!) will be an ideal note taking and sketching device. Of course, it can also display eBooks and text without a sweat.
If you are curious, the battery life is claimed to be 10 hours, and the price will be set at $199 to $299 depending on models. The Asus Eee Tablet will be commercialized in September. What do you think? In these days of multi-touch, do you miss using a pen?

Sony shows new 11.7-inch OLED panel, laptops soon?

Sony has demonstrated another 11.7" OLED panel at SID 2010. While the sheer size of the screen is an eye-catcher, Sony has also managed to improve the lifespan of the display as well - one of the many challenges to mass commercialization of OLED displays (the biggest challenge being the size). Sony estimates that the display could last more than 10 years , which seems more than reasonable for a consumer electronics device... On the technical side, the resolution is still lower than today's laptop with only 960x520, but the colors and contrast on OLED are fantastic. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it will make it into laptops anytime soon, but we're getting very close. [TechOn via oled-display]

iLuv App Station Review
We know that this next bit of information will most likely shock and upset you, but it has to be told: the current Engadget editor doesn't own an iPod dock. In fact, he doesn't even own an alarm clock. Of course, it would be nice to listen to Pandora or the BBC's Desert Island Disks without switching on the computer during those rare times when we weren't working -- but it was never a priority. Not a priority, that is, until we laid eyes on that cute Alarm Clock app (or, at least, a cardboard simulation thereof) at CES. Now that we have had the iLuv App Station in our hot little hands (and on our bedside table) for a week, the jury is in. Is iLuv's App Station all that it's cracked up to be? Read on, dear readers, to find out.

Sanyo Xacti DMX-CA100 joins the ‘waterproof pocket HD camcorder’ crew
Sure, Sanyo's PR claims this camera is the "world's first waterproof full HD camera," but unfortunately for them Kodak beat them to the punch. A caveat at the bottom of the PR clarifies that this claim was merely meant for "Full HD video cameras for consumer use with optical zoom lenses," which naturally makes everything better. Plus there's not point in getting down on Sanyo, since it's essentially delivered its classic Xacti form factor and middle-of-the-road image quality in a waterproof (up to 10 feet) chassis. The DMX-CA100 will be launched at the end of june for some unnamed price, and shoots 1080p video to H.264, 14 megapixel stills, and offers a 6x optical zoom augmented by a 6x "Advanced Zoom" that crops the image sensor instead of just blowing up the pixels like a regular digital zoom.
